After spending several days on land exploring the mountains, ravines and gorges of the island, we took to the seas in search of marine life.
I knew the waters were blessed with an incredible array of wildlife and so my hopes were high that we would see something; I certainly wasn’t disappointed. As we sailed over the deep, blue ocean, we came across pods of Bottlenose and Atlantic-spotted dolphins which inquisitively followed our boat, dipping up and down.
These beautiful creatures were amazing to watch so closely and when the chance came to dip into the water and snorkel with them, I jumped at it. As I slid into the sea, mask and snorkel fitted, the warm water was akin to being in a bath – it was 23°C of pure bliss! Grabbing hold of the rope, I floated along as the boat gently idled forward. The dolphins were swimming all around – up, down, left and right; it was fantastic to be a part of it and is an experience I’d love to enjoy again.
