Gozo boot camp week

I had been to Gozo once before several years ago with my family and my two favourite things about this island destination were the food and the wonderful climate! I jumped at the opportunity to go back to Gozo but this time it would be a very different type of holiday.

I was set to join a short break focused entirely on improving my overall health and well being... (So probably much less pasta, pizza and ice cream than during my last holiday!).

I met the small group the first night after we had the chance to check into the beautiful Bella Vista Farmhouses. There were all kinds of people in my group of varying age, physical ability and also trepidation of what the week ahead would hold.

The holiday absolutely flew by and I had a wonderful time!

My personal highlights were kayaking along the coastline on Sunday afternoon. I loved seeing the island from this completely new perspective and you could certainly tell you were working on your arm muscles during the adventure. We explored small caves and inlets in the landscape and everyone enjoyed a relaxing swim at the end too.

Every level of ability and previous experience was catered for extremely well during the entire week and the more traditional exercise sessions such as the beach boot camps and cardiovascular workout sessions were tailored very cleverly to ensure no one felt like they were left behind or were the least fit in the group. The range of exercises included also meant that for everything someone struggled with they also found at least one thing that the really enjoyed and came more naturally to them.

Food 3 Gozo

Another highlight for me was the discussion Laura hosted about people's attitude to healthy eating and the reasons behind why so many 'diets' I had tried in the past had failed. It was really insightful for me and definitely made me look at planning my meals and food in a more balanced way in the future. The food we cooked together during the weekend wasn't just healthy but also delicious. As everything was easy to prepare, I will definitely try some of the recipes at home.

Looking back across the holiday as a whole I definitely feel healthier and better for taking a little time out of everyday life, being a little selfish and focussing on myself for a week.

Combine this with the beautiful sunshine and great activities which allowed everyone to explore this charming little island a little more and I am returning from this holiday refreshed and revitalised and ready to put some of the nutritional suggestions and exercises I learnt during the boot camps and evening talks with Laura to good practice.
